I think the very first thing that will come to mind when you see these children is . . . wow, they are stunningly beautiful. And, yep, you are correct. But I tell you, these kids are so well-behaved and full of personality. Truly a joy to photograph. Enough talking. Just enjoy them.
I recently had the privilege of photographing 3 beautiful siblings at a local farm. It was a cool and crisp day, with just the right touch of sun. The girls were so polite and easy going . . . we had a great time just exploring the terrain and capturing great images together. When it came time to process the photos from the day, I really wanted to draw attention to the serene quality of the day, and the mom was in favor of going with a softer look. So enjoy my creative take on the vintage vibe . . .
As most of you likely know, I have quietly steered clear of weddings and large events in my happy world of photography. Now don’t get me wrong, weddings are extraordinary. . . so many incredible moments to soak in and capture. But there are lots of un-named reasons for me to say “no thank you” to that genre of my trade and leave that to the people who absolutely thrive in the world of weddings. Not only do I not shoot weddings, but I have created a name for myself by photographing families in a lifestyle, comfortable and super authentic fashion. It’s my thing. So when I received the unusual request to photograph this family the day AFTER their renewal of wedding vows in honor of their 25th anniversary, I was intrigued. Could I still maintain that authentic feel I love to capture even when the family is trapped in tuxedos and fancy footwear?
. Well, after spending an hour with this incredible family, I think it is safe to say it can be done. Watch out . . . I might just be requesting that you all dress up for me now (hee hee)!
You know . . . we have all seen them . . . those Pottery Barn catalogs that show the birthday party where every detail has been attended to. The party guests are all adorable and dressed impeccably, the party theme is cute and not idolizing an animated bright yellow sponge . . . yes, I know, it is an elusive party . . . one that I thought never really existed. I take it all back – it does exist. At least it did this past Saturday. Behold THE cutest backyard Carnival Themed Birthday Party: complete with carnival games, tickets, a prize table, cupcakes, a glass jar FILLED with cotton candy, cookies, face painting, water balloon toss, and the birthday girl’s dad even played the guitar for a sing-along. Truth be told, there are some sessions that take a lot of energy – not necessarily in a bad way, just physically and mentally challenging. And then there are some sessions that are like sipping a hot cup of coffee on the front porch on a breezy summer morning. I tell you, this session was the tall cup of coffee and then some!! Photographing teens often brings me joy and fills my creative tanks to overflowing . . . and this session in particular did not disappoint. Enjoy.
